NATIONAL AIR POST HISTORY

 

  • The possibility to bring news, medicines, food, bricks, information and many other important itens to small comunities was a dream that should become reality.
  • On july 12, 1931, in a Curtiss Fledgling K-263, liutenants Casimiro Montenegro Filho and Nelson Freire Lavanère Wanderley started the inaugural flight of the Military Post, which was called National Air Post ("Correio Aéreo Nacional"- CAN) in 1941.

  • At that time, the flight that takes 45 minutes by comercial jets nowadays, took 5 hours and 25 minutes, even if planed to last 2 hours less.

 

NEWS FROM THAT TIME

 

  •  At 1931, Lysias Rodrigues has been entrusted of a very important mission. The american air company Pan American Airways was trying to reduce the time of the flight between Buenos Aires and Miami, originaly made over the litoral from Rio de Janeiro to Belem, through the "irregular circle of the brazilian coast".
  • "A straight route maybe could provide time economy" as he said in "Roteiro do Tocantins" document.
  • Panam was operating in Brazil since 1930, when started to flight the Brazil - United States route and incorporate Nyrba do Brasil, creating the Panair.
  • Company. But the brazilian government authorization to evaluate the new route was still needed, and it was grant on the condition that a brazilian pilot accompanied the mission.
  • The French Air Post and their pilots adventures crossing deserts, mountains and aceans was a brazilian pilots dream.
  • Their feat were coming since the inauguration of Latécoère Aitlines in 1919, linking France and Marrocos, and very soon reaching new destinations, for the glory of their pilots.
  • Jean Mermoz was an idol of the new generation brazilian pilots during 20´s.
